The Montclair Local recently wrote a long article highlighting the increases in extreme weather that are going to be coming as a result of climate change. Warmer air means more water in the air, and that means more intense rainfall and more flooding. Already, intense rainfall has increased dramatically in the northeast US over the past few decades, and it will only get worse. Quoting areas officials and experts, including MCA coordinator David Korfhage, the Local described the flooding from Ida as something that the town could see more of, and highlighted the need to strengthen infrastructure around town to deal with these threats–what climate experts call adaptation. For more information on adaptation, see our adaptation page on the MCA website, and read the article from the Local.
